Finding Your Authentic Life

Do you ever feel like a puppet, as if your hands and legs are tied up in what others want you to do, instead of what you want to do? Over your lifetime, you’ll change, transform and evolve. To find happiness and contentment, stay true to yourself by incorporating the following tips and tricks for finding your authentic life.

What Is Living an Authentic Life All About?

Who you are and what you do are not the same thing. Even though the roles we take on in life can feel like who you are–whether you are parent, student, or lawyer–deep down, you are separate from all that. It’s part of you, but it doesn’t define you.

Who you are–your authentic self–is about choices you make. It’s about your wisdom, talents, passions, and those unique things you choose to express.

Living authentically means listening to your intuition, and doing what feels right, no matter what anyone else has to say about it. Choose what makes you feel like you have a sense of freedom—not what is best for your parents, or most acceptable for society.

That doesn’t mean you should abandon what you are–you don’t necessarily need to switch jobs or disown your family to be true to yourself! Finding your authentic life means choosing love over fear, every time you’re faced with a choice, big or small.

What Makes You Come Alive?

What did you love doing as a child? Playing sports, acting in plays or figuring out how to create tall buildings made out of Legos? Whatever you loved doing as a child is most often the deepest desire you truly have, and what you still love to do now.

What traits set you apart from everyone else? Focus on this list, and remind yourself of it every single day—as you do, it will create confidence and a desire to live that life.

Focus on What You Can and Will Do to Make Your Goals Happen

Make a list of all of your goals (big and small), then divide each goal into smaller and smaller tasks. If your calling is, for example, to sell your mural paintings instead of working as a legal secretary, focus on small, actionable steps you can take right now to make that happen. Paint one picture this month. Call a gallery to see whether they are accepting submissions, etc.

There is always something you can be doing. If you feel stuck on your current path and want to take a more honest approach to living your life, focus on a weekly goal. As smaller goals become a reality, set your intention for bigger goals.

Pursue Creative Interests, and Make Them Part of Your Life

Ask yourself: What do I love doing? What makes me feel alive? What activities make me feel energetic, and what activities make me feel a loss of energy and motivation?

Focus on taking up new hobbies—photography, cooking class, a beginner’s class on entrepreneurship, etc. Experiment with new hobbies and find out what excites you!

Your authentic self is like a thumbprint which sets you apart from every other person in the world and defines you, uniquely. Focus on what is important to you and what your passions are in order to continue moving forward in an authentic way.

How to Use Affirmations with the Law of Attraction

To affirm means to declare what is already present. When you use affirmations, you are declaring to yourself and the universe that your desire is present, that your mind is made up, and that there is only one possible outcome. As you continue to focus on and repeat your affirmations, you will find that they become your reality.

Affirmations serve many purposes when trying to manifest the things you want. Applying the law of attraction can sometimes seem daunting, because you may feel as though you have to think upbeat positive thoughts 24/7. It’s almost impossible to monitor your thoughts twenty four hours a day, but when you create clear affirmations, with details, they become a great tool in controlling your thoughts and in turn influencing the law of attraction in your favor.

Here are three ways to use affirmations with your law of attraction practice to get great results.

How to Use Affirmations

1. The first step to using affirmations is to become very clear about what you want.

Think about what it is that you want. A new house A new job? A new car? Can you be more specific? What kind of car? What make? What model? How much does it cost? The more specific you can be, the more likely you will be to get what you want.

As an example, say you find a magic lamp and a genie grants you one wish. You ask for a new car, and get a brand new Matchbox car! It is a new car, right? Obviously, the genie can do a much better job of granting your wish if you are very specific about what you want. Next time, try asking for a 2015 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid in winter pearl color with all-weather floor mats, a cargo net, and alloy wheel nuts. (Hey, even if you’re not a Prius fan, it’s better than a Matchbox car, right?)

BE SPECIFIC! The clearer you are about your intentions the more power you give to your affirmations.

2. Your affirmations should be written, should be in first person, should be positive, and should state your desire as if it is already complete.

Let’s go through each of these:

WRITTEN. Seriously. Write. Them. Down. You are more likely to achieve your goals when they are written down, and affirmations are really just goals in a nutshell, right? Write them down.

FIRST PERSON. That’s easy enough. You’re not writing affirmations for your Aunt Lucy, here. Write them for you.

POSITIVE. Rather than saying, “I don’t want to be fat,” rephrase it into something positive, such as, “I am trim and healthy.” Instead of “I’m not poor,” try, “I am wealthy.” Avoid using words like don’t, not, no, etc.

STATED AS THOUGH YOUR DESIRE IS COMPLETE. If every day you say to yourself, “I am going to be rich!” Then every day you will be telling your subconscious mind that you are going to be rich at some point in the future, and every day your subconscious will decide it doesn’t need to do anything about it.

Then again, if you say to yourself, “I am rich!” it can sometimes be hard to make yourself believe it, because it’s so foreign to you.

How do you get around that? One way is to set a timeline. For example, you could say, “By the time I am 35, I will have $100,000 in the bank.” Another way is to affirm small steps, such as, “Every day I add to my net worth. By the time I am 35, I will have saved $100,000.”

3. Move into the affirmation with feeling.

Feeling adds power to your desires. Feelings generate an internal energy that allows your whole being to absorb your statement.

If you’re finding your affirmations aren’t helping you as much as you’d like, consider the possibility that you’ve become stuck in an energetic pattern. You’re just used to how things are, and it’s hard to believe any differently.

One technique that may be helpful is to first think about a time when you felt the feeling that you are trying to achieve, then say your affirmation. For example, say you want to exercise more, but right now you are feeling dumpy and couch potatoey. (It “potatoey” isn’t a word, it should be.) Before you say your exercise affirmations–because, let’s face it, if you said them now you would be thinking “yeah right” the whole time–let’s change your mind to think about a time when you DID feel healthy and energetic. Maybe it was the way you felt when you ran your first mile last week. Think about that. Sit with that feeling, and try to relive that feeling. THEN start your affirmations.

The Basics of Vibrations

Remember that thing Einstein said? E=mc2 or something? Yeah, that! That equation tells us that ALL matter, including ourselves, is made up of energy. In our case, that energy can be harnessed by the power of our thoughts. We are the thoughts we think, both consciously and unconsciously.

When you think thoughts of love, kindness, respect and gratitude, you raise your vibrations. When you think of fear, anxiety, worry or anger, you lower your vibrations.

High vibrations make it easier to attract and receive what you want in life; low vibrations make it difficult to receive good things in your life.

Some Ways to Improve Your Thoughts

You are who you surround yourself with. Pay attention to the attitudes of those whom you spend the most time with—friends, family members, neighbors, co-workers. Are they positive or negative? Do they gossip or lift your spirits up with laughter? Choose to spend time with people who raise your vibration.

Detox. This will have a huge impact on clearing your thoughts. Eliminate or limit the following from your diet: processed foods, animal products, cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, and any pesticides or artificial foods.

Meditate. Sometimes difficult to start, it’s addicting once it becomes a habit! Meditation allows you to connect to your higher self (free of ego) and listen for any messages you receive from the Divine, or your inner wisdom. This will help improve positive thoughts significantly!

Visualization for Achieving Life Success

Create positive energy and positive thoughts by visualizing every day what you want to make a reality. For example, visualize going through your work day with ease (no fires to put out!), greeting people with a big smile, and receiving a workload that you can easily handle.

Imagine eating clean and healthy, with foods that make your body feel replenished and strong. Imagine feeling blessed by all of the wonderful people in your life, and going home feeling personally satisfied at the end of the day.

Take a few minutes in the morning, at lunch, and right before you go to bed to form a thorough picture in your mind of your ideal life, and the things that bring you happiness.

Affirmations to Raise Your Vibrational State

Affirmations are positive statements that set your intention for the day, week, or minute.

They are great tools to use in the morning, when you need to focus on positive thoughts instead of worrying what the day will bring.

Attach them to your bedroom mirror, dashboard, or laptop computer to remind you throughout your day of the energy you want to send out to the world, which will then come back multiplied.

Use these affirmations or create your own. They should be positive, short, and easy for you to remember.

“I do not worry about things I can’t control.”

“I treat my body with respect, love and balance.”

“I make health a priority in my life, daily.”

“I have a rich life, with multiple streams of income and supportive love all around me.”

“I see happiness everywhere I go, and offer valuable contributions to the world.”
