How to Use Affirmations with the Law of Attraction

To affirm means to declare what is already present. When you use affirmations, you are declaring to yourself and the universe that your desire is present, that your mind is made up, and that there is only one possible outcome. As you continue to focus on and repeat your affirmations, you will find that they become your reality.
Affirmations serve many purposes when trying to manifest the things you want. Applying the law of attraction can sometimes seem daunting, because you may feel as though you have to think upbeat positive thoughts 24/7. It’s almost impossible to monitor your thoughts twenty four hours a day, but when you create clear affirmations, with details, they become a great tool in controlling your thoughts and in turn influencing the law of attraction in your favor.
Here are three ways to use affirmations with your law of attraction practice to get great results.
How to Use Affirmations
1. The first step to using affirmations is to become very clear about what you want.
Think about what it is that you want. A new house A new job? A new car? Can you be more specific? What kind of car? What make? What model? How much does it cost? The more specific you can be, the more likely you will be to get what you want.
As an example, say you find a magic lamp and a genie grants you one wish. You ask for a new car, and get a brand new Matchbox car! It is a new car, right? Obviously, the genie can do a much better job of granting your wish if you are very specific about what you want. Next time, try asking for a 2015 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid in winter pearl color with all-weather floor mats, a cargo net, and alloy wheel nuts. (Hey, even if you’re not a Prius fan, it’s better than a Matchbox car, right?)
BE SPECIFIC! The clearer you are about your intentions the more power you give to your affirmations.
2. Your affirmations should be written, should be in first person, should be positive, and should state your desire as if it is already complete.
Let’s go through each of these:
WRITTEN. Seriously. Write. Them. Down. You are more likely to achieve your goals when they are written down, and affirmations are really just goals in a nutshell, right? Write them down.
FIRST PERSON. That’s easy enough. You’re not writing affirmations for your Aunt Lucy, here. Write them for you.
POSITIVE. Rather than saying, “I don’t want to be fat,” rephrase it into something positive, such as, “I am trim and healthy.” Instead of “I’m not poor,” try, “I am wealthy.” Avoid using words like don’t, not, no, etc.
STATED AS THOUGH YOUR DESIRE IS COMPLETE. If every day you say to yourself, “I am going to be rich!” Then every day you will be telling your subconscious mind that you are going to be rich at some point in the future, and every day your subconscious will decide it doesn’t need to do anything about it.
Then again, if you say to yourself, “I am rich!” it can sometimes be hard to make yourself believe it, because it’s so foreign to you.
How do you get around that? One way is to set a timeline. For example, you could say, “By the time I am 35, I will have $100,000 in the bank.” Another way is to affirm small steps, such as, “Every day I add to my net worth. By the time I am 35, I will have saved $100,000.”
3. Move into the affirmation with feeling.
Feeling adds power to your desires. Feelings generate an internal energy that allows your whole being to absorb your statement.
If you’re finding your affirmations aren’t helping you as much as you’d like, consider the possibility that you’ve become stuck in an energetic pattern. You’re just used to how things are, and it’s hard to believe any differently.
One technique that may be helpful is to first think about a time when you felt the feeling that you are trying to achieve, then say your affirmation. For example, say you want to exercise more, but right now you are feeling dumpy and couch potatoey. (It “potatoey” isn’t a word, it should be.) Before you say your exercise affirmations–because, let’s face it, if you said them now you would be thinking “yeah right” the whole time–let’s change your mind to think about a time when you DID feel healthy and energetic. Maybe it was the way you felt when you ran your first mile last week. Think about that. Sit with that feeling, and try to relive that feeling. THEN start your affirmations.
